'Lion' on the Loose Turns Out to Be Dog With Stylish Haircut

What looked like a lion prowling the woods in eastern County Clare turned out to be something far more harmless — a fluffy dog with a bold new haircut.

Police in Killaloe, Ireland, launched an investigation after a truck driver filmed what he believed was an African lion wandering through a wooded area. The video quickly went viral, sparking speculation and concern.

But the mystery was solved almost as quickly as it started.

“Turns out it was just a very committed Newfoundland dog with a fresh haircut,” Gardaí wrote on social media.

Mouse, the dog in question, had been spotted several times before in the area, according to local forest manager John O’Reilly. “The animal had been seen before by harvesters working on the site, but it was from a distance, moving through the trees. We assumed it was a deer before the video was captured,” he told CorkBeo.

After confirming the animal’s identity, Gardaí described Mouse as “very friendly” and said he is “delighted with his recent viral video clip.”

The incident caused no harm, apart from a few startled glances, and ended with more laughter than fear — and one Newfoundland enjoying his moment of internet fame.
