Firefighters Rescue Injured Deer from Frozen Lake

Firefighters rescued an injured deer that had become stuck on a frozen lake in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, January 13.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, crews responded to a call from Parks and Wildlife after an injured deer was found stranded on the ice at Curr Reservoir.

“The deer had fallen through but managed to pull itself out, leaving it exhausted and unable to move far from the break in the ice,” the department said.

“Our crew geared up in full ice-rescue equipment and made their way onto the frozen surface. The deer was understandably frightened, but we were able to safely secure it in a harness and get it back to solid ground.

“As soon as it hit land, the deer found its strength and took off back into the wild… Teamwork made this rescue possible, and we’re grateful for the chance to help one of Colorado’s wild residents get a second chance.”
