The fight against malaria has made a significant step forward in Kenya as the country has announced it's expanding its use of the world’s first-ever malaria vaccine! Over a million doses of the vaccine have been administered since a 2019 pilot program was launched, and it has seen a phased introduction in Kenya since then. The Health Ministry is now extending the vaccine to an additional 25 sub-counties in lake-endemic regions, free of charge, and is aiming to offer it to an additional 133,000 infants in lake-endemic counties.
