Researchers at UBC's faculty of forestry analyzed data from a global data set drawing from 8,671 camera trap stations. They found more mammal diversity in survey areas where habitat had a protected designation. This was true even when these protected areas experienced human disturbances such as recreational use and logging.

Researchers Have Found a Way to Produce Carbon-Negative Concrete
Concrete is having a makeover! Finnish materials researchers just found the perfect carbon-negative replacement for cement that they say captures more CO2 than it takes to produce. The magical ingredient? Slag from blast furnace smelting combined with bio-ash. In early experiments, it reduced the CO2 emissions of conventional concrete by 45% and lowering its carbon footprint to -60 kg/m3 by replacing Portland cement with slag This innovation could help to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of one of humanity's most widely-used building materials.

The NFL's Damar Hamlin is on a Mission to Put More Defibrillators in Schools
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin visited Capitol Hill to push for better access to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools. Hamlin's survival from sudden cardiac arrest during a football game is widely credited to the rapid use of CPR and a defibrillator on the field. The Access to AEDs Act would authorize a grant program to purchase AEDs, fund CPR and AED training programs in schools, and promote the importance of defibrillation in schools. The bill's goal is to normalize heart health and life-saving access to AEDs.
This Woman Was Just Reunited With the Stranger That Saved Her Life
A woman named Tegan Badham has been reunited with the man who saved her life after she fell onto a live Tube track in London in July 2022. Anthony Smith reached off the platform and pulled Tegan to safety, only moments before a train ran into the station. The reunion was made possible thanks to the show Reunion Hotel. Tegan, who was treated at hospital in London for burns and a possible chipped bone in her back, expressed her gratitude to both Anthony and her rubber boots, which she said also helped save her life.

After 33 hours of surgeries and the assistance of a global team, Bernardo and Arthur Lima--the fused brain conjoined twins--finally got to see each other's faces for the first time! The twin 3-year olds have spent their entire lives knowing just one another, separated only by their heads. Using virtual reality as preparation, almost 100 medical workers worked together to make this miracle possible.
