Scientists Are Bringing Us Closer to History by Decoding Ancient Scents
Smells evoke emotions and memories that shape how we perceive and navigate the world, and they are becoming recognized as an important part of heritage. Now, scientists are studying the sense of smell to reconstruct ancient aromas and learn more about how people used to live. They are using biomolecular approaches, such as chromatography and mass spectrometry, to detect residues left on ancient objects such as incense burners, perfume bottles, cooking pots and food storage jars, which can reveal the ingredients and scents of the past.

A Community Came Together to Pay Off the Lunch Debt for All Its Students
An inspiring story comes out of North Carolina, where a church congregation raised $23,000 to help children in their community pay off their school lunch debt. Pastor Dickie Spargo of City Church in Gastonia read a news article about the growing number of kids whose school lunch accounts remain unpaid, and was moved to help. The funds raised will eliminate student lunch debt for the year for every school int he county and contribute towards paying off debt for the next school year.

In heartwarming news, a one-eyed cat named Crash has become the first feline ever to win the Cadbury Bunny contest. The 8-year-old from Boise, Idaho was injured in a car accident, which left him with one eye. However, his outgoing personality and loving demeanor earned him the love of shelter staff and now the title of Cadbury's official "spokesbunny" for the year. As the winner, Crash will star in the 2023 Cadbury "Clucking Bunny" commercial and receive a prize of $5,000 for himself and $5,000 for the shelter of his choice.

A Social Media Plea Helped Reunite a Woman With Her Lost Wedding Dress
A Canadian woman has been reunited with her wedding dress, which was mistakenly donated to a thrift shop by her father. Tanya Walsh had originally made a "long shot" plea on social media, asking locals to keep an eye out for the dress. The dress, which had extra significance for Walsh as it was bought by her late mother, who died soon after her daughter's wedding, was found by a volunteer in the basement of the St. Vincent de Paul Value Store. He Returned a Lost $10,000 Check, But His Reward Was Much Bigger
When Elmer Alvarez was homeless, he found a $10,000 check. Instead of trying to pocket the money, he returned it to its owner. He says it was the right thing to do, despite being in a difficult situation himself. The check belonged to real estate broker Roberta Hoskie, who was surprised to find out it was returned by someone who was homeless. She rewarded Elmer for his honesty and offered him more than just a cash reward. She paid his rent for seven months and put him through real estate school. Now, with Roberta's help, Elmer is back on his feet.
