This Adorable Monkey Is Out of Quarantine After a Rescue From a Drug Bust

Violeta the adorable spider monkey has come out of quarantine at the Oakland Zoo, where she’s being cared for after she was rescued from a drug bust in May.


On Friday, June 6, the Oakland Zoo released a video showing the spider monkey moving around in her new space, which the zoo said she was loving.


“Cleared of all infectious disease testing, she’s moved to a larger area and is gaining weight slowly but steadily,” the zoo wrote on X.


Violeta was found by sheriff’s deputies on May 6 while they were executing a drug-related search warrant in a man’s residence in Vallejo, California. Violeta was found alongside a pound of methamphetamine, $2,000 in cash and two rattlesnakes.


After she was found, Violeta was taken to the Oakland Zoo.


The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) categorizes spider monkeys as an endangered species.
