Adorable First-Time Kangaroo Dad Steals Hearts Ahead of Aussie Father's Day

First-time kangaroo dad Oscar has been seen doting on his growing joeys at the Healesville Sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, ahead of the country’s Father’s Day on Sunday, September 7.

Newly released footage from Zoos Victoria shows Oscar wrestling and snuggling with his kiddos.

“He actually is quite a protective father,” Healesville Sanctuary Mammal Keeper Katherine Sarris said in the video. “He will go over to them and check that they’re okay.”

Oscar is the zoo’s new breeding male, and he was introduced to the all-female mob of Kangaroo Island ‘roos at the Healesville Sanctuary three years ago so he could grow up around them and then start to mate, according to a press release.

“Now he’s proudly taking on the role of dad,” Zoos Victoria said in the press release.
