Meet Imara and Tamu: Fort Worth Zoo's Adorable New Lion Cubs

Fort Worth Zoo announced the birth of two adorable lion cubs on Tuesday, September 9, sharing footage of the pair exploring the world together in their habitat.

The zoo said the male-female sibling pair were born on June 29 to mother Saba and father Jabulani. Since their birth, the cubs have been behind the scenes “growing and bonding with mom, while keepers have kept a close eye on their development and well-being.”

According to the zoo, “After a few weeks observing the cubs, keepers noticed the female to be more adventurous, bold and perhaps a little feisty. The male cub tends to be more cautious and reserved and often found closer to mom.”

Keepers named the female Imara, the Swahili word for “strength,” and the male Tamu, the Swahili word for “sweet.”

“Together their names represent the journey of conservation – it demands strength and steadfast commitment, but the successes are oh so sweet,” the zoo said in a press release.
